Pricing and payments

Connect Stripe, create plans and trials, and let customers pay for feed access.

Payments on pkgstore run through Stripe Connect. You connect your own Stripe account, set your prices, and pkgstore handles checkout and access. Money goes directly to your Stripe account.

1. Connect Stripe

Open Settings and start the Stripe Connect flow. You will be redirected to Stripe to authorize the connection, then returned to pkgstore. If you do not have a Stripe account, you can create one during this step. You can disconnect at any time from the same page.

2. Create pricing plans

A marketplace feed can have one or more pricing plans. Each plan defines:

  • Price and interval: a monthly or yearly subscription amount.
  • Seats: one seat is an individual plan; more than one makes it a team plan, where the buyer can invite members.
  • Support tier: optional Standard, Priority, or Dedicated label to describe what the plan includes.

pkgstore creates the matching price in your Stripe account automatically. You can keep multiple plans active at once, for example an individual monthly plan alongside a discounted yearly team plan.

A plan can be deactivated or deleted from feed management. If a plan already has subscribers, use the cancellation option when you want existing subscribers to end at the close of their current billing period. New buyers only see active plans. The per-developer pricing flag is a display hint on the offering, useful when the price is meant to be read as a per-seat amount.

3. Free trials

Marketplace Feeds can offer a free trial before paid billing begins. In feed management, enable the trial, choose a length from 1 to 365 days, and keep card collection enabled. Checkout tells the buyer the trial length and collects the payment method before access starts.

During the trial, the buyer has the same restore access as an active subscriber. When the trial ends, Stripe starts the paid subscription. If the buyer cancels before conversion, access ends when the subscription becomes cancelled.

4. Marketplace and Stripe fees

pkgstore charges a 7% commission on Marketplace Feed subscription payments. There are no setup or monthly platform fees. The commission is collected automatically by Stripe when the subscription is billed.

Stripe processing fees are separate from the pkgstore commission and are paid by the publisher. They vary by connected-account country, payment method, card origin, currency conversion, and other details. Check Stripe's current pricing for the rates that apply to your account.

A free trial does not produce a pkgstore fee until Stripe collects a subscription payment. Refunds, disputes, and payment adjustments remain visible in the connected Stripe account and should be reconciled there.

5. Tax and currency

In Settings you can enable Stripe Tax and choose whether your prices are tax inclusive or exclusive. When enabled, Stripe calculates and collects the correct tax at checkout based on the customer's location.

Basic Listings expose display pricing in USD or EUR because checkout happens outside pkgstore. Marketplace Feed checkout uses the offering currency internally, but the current Marketplace Feed create and edit screens do not expose a currency selector, so treat Marketplace Feed pricing as the default currency shown in the product UI.

6. How payment maps to access

This is the part that saves you the most work. When a customer completes checkout, pkgstore creates a subscription and lets the customer generate restore credentials from the product page.

  • Trialing: access is granted while the trial period has not ended.
  • Active: access is granted for normal paid subscriptions.
  • Past due: access is retained while Stripe retries payment.
  • Cancelled or suspended: access is revoked automatically.

Customers manage their own payment method, invoices, and cancellation through the Stripe billing portal, linked from their dashboard. For the complete status table, see Subscriptions and billing.

Tip: you do not need payments at all to use pkgstore. Private feeds work without Stripe. Connect Stripe only when you want to charge for access.
