How pkgstore works
The product, offering, feed, pricing, and access model behind pkgstore.
1. The hierarchy
A product is the top-level object. It can have offerings, and feed-backed offerings point to a NuGet feed. Marketplace Feed offerings can have pricing plans. Packages live in feeds as package ids and versions.
- Product: the public thing you publish, such as a library or tool.
- Offering: how the product is distributed or sold.
- Feed: the NuGet source used for package restore and download.
- Pricing plan: a monthly or yearly Marketplace Feed plan with price, seats, and optional support tier.
- Package: a package id, version, metadata, and download count in a feed.
2. The three offering types
| Type | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Listing | Public listing with card image, category, display price, and external product URL. No pkgstore feed or checkout. | You already host, sell, or onboard buyers somewhere else. |
| Marketplace Feed | Paid NuGet feed sold through pkgstore checkout with pricing plans, team seats, and optional trials. | You want buyers to subscribe and receive feed access through pkgstore. |
| Private Feed | Internal or direct-share NuGet feed with owner-managed credentials and no pkgstore checkout. | You want to share packages with your team or known customers. |
A product can hold multiple offerings, but Basic Listing and Marketplace Feed are mutually exclusive on the same product. Private Feed access and billing are managed directly by the owner.
3. Review and validation
Public offerings require admin validation before they are visible or purchasable. A Marketplace Feed is not purchasable until it has been submitted for review and approved. If a submission is rejected, review notes explain what to fix before resubmitting. Admin validation can also be revoked later, which removes the public purchase path until the offering is approved again.
Feed-backed offerings also require an approved publisher account before publishing. Approved publishers show a verified badge on listings.
4. Access and subscription states
Active, Trialing, and Past due subscriptions grant feed access. Cancelled and Suspended subscriptions do not. Past due keeps access while Stripe retries payment. Cancelled and Suspended revoke subscriber and team-member credentials.
